PLASENCIA (Spain) - from 1st to 8th July 2023

From 1st to 8th July 2023, during the 17th European Week of the UECT, cycle tourists from all over Europe will be welcomed in Plasencia, a town of 41,000 inhabitants (altitude 408 m) located in the south-west of Spain, in Extremadura, and in the north of the province of Cáceres. The Portuguese border is only 90 km away and Madrid 250 km.

The autonomous community of Extremadura is steeped in history, with monumental and artistic remains, some of which date back to Roman times

Plasencia is located on the Ruta de la Plata and the banks of the river Jerte, it is a city with a medieval past still present with its walls and big towers.
The pedestrian streets of the historic city centre, lined with palaces and stately homes, will allow you to visit the Parador de Plasencia, the Plaza Mayor and the two cathedrals : the Vieja and the Nueva..

The climate is continental with hot summers and average summer temperatures of about 26°.

In close collaboration with the UECT, the Spanish organisers of the FECT Cyclotourism Federation and the Municipality of Plasencia will welcome you at the "administrative" centre which will be located in the El Berrocal building in Miguel de Unamuno Street, (located 1 km from the city centre) where the following events will take place :

the federal UECT campsite in 2 separate areas for motorhomes/caravans and tents :
-  the motorhome/caravan site with 225 pitches is planned on the outskirts of the El Berrocal building (semi-grassy ground on a grassy slab and asphalt)
-  the tented camping site with 54 pitches is planned on the outskirts of the El Berrocal building (grassy ground and clay).

The El Berrocal Exhibition Centre will also be the starting/finishing point for the various road circuits, with 50-80-120 km each day in a mountainous region with a difference in altitude accessible to all trained cyclists. The circuits will be at altitudes of between 350 m and 600 m, and the gear ratios will be adapted to each person's ambitions. The route will be online on our website in mid-March 2023.

For accompanying persons, the program of visits will focus exclusively on tourist sites, accompanied by French and English guides.

The campsite :
Close to the city centre, the UECT federal campsite will be divided into 2 separate areas for motorhomes/caravans and tents, it will not be possible to have motorhomes/caravans and tents together.

Excursions :
A tourist programme in Extremadura in the province of Càceres is proposed, see the programme, i t will allow you to discover a natural and historical environment classified as World Heritage.

Meals :
Breakfast will be held from Saturday 1 July to Saturday 8 July 2023 in the Hotel Real -17 avenue Salamenca - Plasencia, 550 m from El Berrocal campsite. There is no limit to the number of people who can be booked.

Dinner will be held from Saturday 1 July to Thursday 6 July 2023 in the Hotel Real -17 avenue Salamenca - Plasencia, 550 m from El Berrocal campsite. There is no limit to the number of people who can be booked.

TThe closing dinner/gala will take place on Friday 7 July 2023 at the Los Alamos Av. Martin Palomino restaurant, 3.5 km from the El Berrocal campsite - shuttle buses will be available, timetables and information at the reception desk. A maximum of  150 people has been booked.
Meal reservations are made exclusively in advance via the electronic registration form.

The definitive routes for bike road (04/06/2023) :
It is planned :
- A 75 km discovery route on Saturday and a 55 km route on Sunday with a gradient accessible to all trained cyclists
- From Monday to Friday, a choice of 3 routes each day with varying distances: short 35/57 km - medium 55/78 km - long 94/142 km with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the distance, but accessible to all trained cyclists
- We will be in a small mountain region, the courses on asphalt roads will have an altitude between 212 m and 1269 m, plan gears adapted to the ambitions of each one
- Some of these courses will allow you to "hunt for passes" which will allow everyone to increase their record, especially for members Club des 100 Cols.

Plasencia (Spanish) - From 1 to 8 July 2023

From 1 to 8 July 2023, the 17th European Cycle Tourism Week will be organised in Plasencia, a Spanish municipality located in Extremadura, in the north of the province of Càceres.

The UECT office will be located in the building El Berrocal,  street Miguel de Unamuno, the reception will take place from Friday 30 June 2023 14:00-19:00 to Saturday 1 July 2023 9:00-19:00

With regard to housing, it is planned to :

• Close to the city centre, the federal campsite is divided into 3 separate areas for motorhomes/caravans and tents, it will not be possible to have motorhomes/caravans and tents together
  • the camper/caravan site with 484 pitches is planned on the outskirts of the El Berrocal building (semi grassy ground and asphalt)
  • the 2 tent campsites with 90 pitches are planned in the grounds of 2 football stadiums (grassy ground)
  • the supply paying (reservation required) of individual electrical connections 6/8 amps in limited numbers will be possible in each camping space
  • for owners of electrically-assisted bicycles, the (paying) recharging of the batteries will be possible at a single fixed point in each camping area
• 1 youth hostel (number of rooms/beds per establishment, price for the week being listed)
• 12 hotels (number of rooms/beds, price for the week per hotel being listed)
• 2 private campsites
• 2 vacation homes (cottages)

The road bike routes are being studied/developed, according to the specifications it is planned :

• A discovery course of 50/60 km on Saturday and Sunday morning with elevation gain accessible to all trained cyclists
• From Monday to Friday every day 50-80-120 km with elevation gain, accessible to all trained cyclists
• We will be in a mountainous region, on roads at altitude between 350 m and 600 m provide gear ratios adapted to the ambitions of each
• Some of these courses will allow you to "hunt for passes" which will allow everyone to increase their record, especially for members Club des 100 Cols

Information on the routes will be online on our website -à European Weeks mid-March 2023 after bike recognition and authorization from local authorities

To date, there are no gravel routes planned, but mountain bike routes will be studied if there is high demand.

MEPPEL (Netherlands) - July 9-16, 2022

From July 9 to 16, 2022, during the European Week of the UECT, cycle tourists from all over Europe will be welcomed in Meppel, a town of 34,000 inhabitants located in the province of Drenthe, in the north-west of the Netherlands. The German border is only 75 km away and the North Sea 50 km. >>>>LOCATION PLAN 

The province of Drenthe offers typical Dutch landscapes with its canals, windmills, Saxon farms and many picturesque villages, such as Giethoorn (Venice of the North) located 10 km from Meppel.

Meppel is a historic city founded in 1442 and the presence of many canals allowed Meppel to obtain the nickname of Klein-Amsterdam .

The pedestrian streets of the historic city center and the Oud-Zuid district will allow you to visit the Grote de Mariakerk church and its tower built in 1422, its two windmills: Molen de Weert and Molen de Vlijt still in operation and the Drukkerijmuseum.

The climate is temperate oceanic.

In close collaboration with UECT, the Dutch organizers of the association DrentseFiets4Daagse Meppel and the municipal authorities will welcome you at the administrative centre, which will be located at Sport Park Ezinge - Ambachtsweg 11 - Meppel (1.8 km from the city centre), where the following events will take place

The Sport Park will also be the departure / arrival point for the various road circuits which will allow you to discover this part of Northern Europe where cycling is part of everyday life. Three in number (40-80-120 km) every day from Monday to Friday, these easy circuits will take you to typical landscapes. .

For accompanying persons, the program of visits will focus exclusively on tourist sites and local crafts, accompanied by French and English guides.
