From 11 to 18 July 2026, during the 20th European Week of the UECT, cycle tourists from all over Europe will be welcomed to Heerenveen historic town with a population of 50,000, founded in 1551, located in the province of Friesland, in the north-west of the Netherlands .

The German border is only 96 km away and the North Sea 30 km . >>> SITUATION PLAN

The province of Friesland is an agricultural, livestock farming and tourist province with its large lakes and Frisian Wadden Islands. It offers typical Dutch landscapes with its canals, windmills, Saxon farms and numerous picturesque villages.

The climate there is temperate oceanic.

The region of Friesland will surprise every cycle tourist with its diverse landscapes. From the intimate woods of south-east Friesland and vast agricultural lands to the wild coasts of the Wadden Sea and the dykes of Lake Ussel. You will cycle along rolling lakes, bustling harbours and typical nautical villages.

In close collaboration with the UECT, the Dutch organisers of the association Fiets4DaagseMeppel, the municipality, the club Sportstad will welcome you at the ‘administrative’ centre located at Sportstad – Postbus 42 – Heerenveen (2 km from the city centre), where the following events will take place :

  • reception
  • the permanance
  • Federal campsite on five secure grassy areas (total capacity of 610 pitches and 240 electrical hook-ups) >>>> DETAIL MAP

  • Entertainment

The Sportstad will also be the starting/finishing point for various road circuits that will allow you to discover this part of Northern Europe where cycling is part of everyday life. There are three circuits (40-80-120 km) every day from Monday to Friday, plus two discovery tours on Saturday and Sunday. These easy circuits will take you through typical Frisian landscapes.

For accompanying persons, the programme for the three visits will focus exclusively on tourist sites.
